Best Cordless Pool Vacuum Summer 2023 Reviews

Cordless pool vacuums are an incredible invention for many reasons. First, there’s the obvious trip hazard. Next, there’s the convenience of not requiring a power source next to the pool. Lastly, there’s the depreciation concern. As corded pool cleaners get older, their cords can fray. This will happen with any electrical appliance but when you have frayed cords near water, danger can occur. We’ve tested many options to find you the best cordless pool vacuum.

We have included our recommendations for both above ground and inground pools. Additionally, we’ve outlined an acceptable price range, our testing criteria and other helpful information. While cordless pool vacuums are spectacular, especially for above ground pools, we recommend looking at corded options as well before making a decision. We’ve included a few models to compare against below, too.

Best Cordless Pool Vacuum (Above + Inground) Reviews

There are far more above ground cordless pool vacuums than there are inground. This is due to the fact that inground pools are more difficult to clean and often require more powerful than a cordless power source like a battery can provide. However, one thing that is consistent between above and inground pools is that Aiper makes the best cordless vacuum.

The most impressive pool vacuum company is Dolphin, a Maytronics brand. We recommend Dolphins above any other brand of pool vacuums. However, there’s one gigantic problem, all of their models have a thick, heavy cord attached. Therefore, we recommend brands such as Aiper and Wybot for homeowners seeking cordless options.

How Much Does A Cordless Pool Vacuum Cost?

Cordless pool vacuums can get expensive. After all, they’re literally robots that clean your pool. In our experiences, they’re worth every penny but the pennies can add up. If you have an above ground pool, the best cordless pool vacuum for you will be less expensive than an inground model. This is because inground pools require a vacuum with more capabilities. They need to be able to scale up and down a sloped floor and climb walls.

An above ground cordless pool vacuum will cost between $200 – $300. As you can imagine, the more you spend, the better the vacuum will perform its cleaning duties. If you want a robotic cordless version, you will probably spend $300. If you are fine with a semi-automated model, $200 might be achievable.

An inground cordless pool vacuum will be priced between $700 – $800. Again, this is because these models are far more impressive feature-wise than above ground versions. We understand the appeal of spending less money but with inground cleaners, in our experience, it’s well worth an extra $100 when you’re already spending $700 to get the best cordless pool vacuum.

Best Above Ground Cordless Pool Vacuums

The Aiper Seagull SE is by far the most reliable and best cordless pool vacuum when it comes to above ground pools. If you have a flat pool that is less than 40 feet in length, this is the best option. The Aiper won’t do well with slopes, so if you have an above ground pool with various depths, you need to look at our inground cordless pool vacuum section.

To evaluate the best above ground pool vacuums, we made the assumption that, like in most cases, the pool was flat. We also evaluated the run-time, ability to self-park itself and a few other factors.

We found that there are several good cordless models available. However, we’d be remiss to not mention that our favorite above ground pool vacuum is actually corded. The best above ground pool vacuum is the Dolphin E10 cleaner. The E10 does a significantly better job scrubbing out debris but its downside is the annoying tail it drags behind it.

Best Inground Cordless Pool Vacuums

For inground pools, unlike above ground pools, we always recommend sticking with a corded option. The Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus is the best inground pool vacuum we’ve ever tested. However, if you’re sure you want cordless, there are 3 good options. Aiper, Wybot and Ofuzzi have all created inground models from their original above ground pool vacuums.

What To Look For In A Cordless Pool Vacuum

Run Time: You will want your cordless vacuum to be able to clean your pool in one session. Otherwise, you will have to pull it out of the pool, recharge it and then run it again. This might take an entire day instead of 2-3 hours. For an above ground cordless pool vacuum, look for a run time of at least 90 minutes. Inground pools are bigger and therefore require longer run time. For an inground cordless pool vacuum, look for a run time of at least 180 minutes.

Foot Range: Every pool is a different size. As a result, every pool take a different amount of time to clean. For above ground pools, look for a minimum length of 1,000 square feet. Again, inground pools require a tad bit more length due to their varying shapes and generally bigger size. For inground pools, look for a vacuum with a length of 2,000 square feet.

Weight: You don’t want to be lugging a heavy pool vacuum to and from your pool constantly. Avoid above ground pool vacuums over 15 pounds and inground versions over 35 pounds. While pool vacuums do need to be heavy to not float and be effective, its unnecessary for them to exceed those weight thresholds.

5 Cordless Pool Vacuums To Avoid

We always include the most impressive products in each category we test. However, we’ve realized that this can often exclude some of the items that were disappointing. As a result, we wanted to call out some of the vacuums that you should avoid. These are low quality vacuums that did not meet a satisfactory result.

Best Cordless Pool Vacuum Summary

We hope you’ve learned a lot about cordless pool vacuums and have a good idea of which model you’ll purchase. To quickly recap, finding the best cordless pool vacuum for your needs requires knowing what type of pool it’s going to clean. The requirements for above ground and inground pools vary a lot. Once you know above ground or inground, look at a vacuum’s run time, foot range coverage and weight. We recommend the Aiper Seagull SE for above ground pools and the Aiper Seagull Pro for inground pools.
